KidGlov Advertising Agency Podcast Hosts Brian Barks, CEO of Food Bank for the Heartland
KidGlov, a boutique, full-service advertising, branding and content marketing agency based out of Lincoln and Omaha, Neb., recently welcomed Brian Barks, president and CEO of Food Bank for the Heartland, to its podcast, Agency for Change. The episode explored how food insecurities have risen in Nebraska and western Iowa in response to the pandemic and inflation, and how the organization is partnering with the community to provide relief to thousands each month.
“One in nine people face food insecurity today,” said Katherine Warren, KidGlov chief operating officer. “The statistic is sobering, but organizations like the Food Bank for the Heartland are working to bring great change for those in need of food in Nebraska and western Iowa. Tune-in to this week’s podcast episode to learn more about the growing need and how you can help.”
Food Bank for the Heartland partners with almost 600 different organizations ranging from brick-and-mortar pantries to emergency shelters to after school programs and schools to support distribution to families, individuals, parents, seniors, veterans that need food assistance. The group works in 77 counties in Nebraska and 16 counties in western Iowa.
The Agency for Change episode with Barks explored the Food Bank’s history of serving the community, how food insecurities grew during the pandemic, and how the need for food continues to grow as a result of inflation.
“Unfortunately, we’re seeing the need for food continue to rise,” said Barks. “Inflation has a lot to do with that. We’re all seeing grocery store shelves a little emptier than they usually are and combined with supply chain issues, we’re seeing the impact of that. During the pandemic, we were serving an average of 38,000 households each month. In the last two months, that has grown to more than 40,000.”
Barks shared the importance of community involvement for the Food Bank and shared ways to get involved, including the annual Strike Out Hunger event, a competitive challenge where local businesses and organizations raise funds and volunteers for the Food Bank.
“We now, more than ever, need the continued support of our community to keep operations moving and to continue to serve our neighbors,” said Barks. “It took 10 years after the Great Recession for food insecurity to drop. We anticipate that will happen again.”
