KidGlov, a boutique, full-service advertising, branding and content marketing agency based out of Lincoln and Omaha, Neb., recently welcomed Shari Veil, dean and professor, University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) College of Journalism and Mass Communication (CoJMC), to its podcast, Agency for Change. The episode explored the college’s work shaping the next generation of communicators.

“Few careers receive the same amount of criticism as journalism while at the same time playing such an important role keeping us all informed. Journalism is a changing field and it was fascinating to sit down with Shari Veil to learn more about her views on the future,” said Kelley Peterson, KidGlov vice president, creative director.

The first journalism class held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln was taught in 1894. Today, students can choose from a variety of career paths including majors in journalism, advertising and public relations, broadcasting, and sports media and communication. CoJMC’s mission is to nurture curious and creative minds to thrive in the ever-changing media and communication professions. Their inclusive “do from day one” experience is rooted in hard work, collaborative problem-solving and the ethical pursuit of truth to uphold democracy.

The Agency for Change episode with Veil explores the great reach of CoJMC, how journalism has changed over the years, what Veil sees for the future of the industry, and the college’s hands-on Experience Lab, a learning program that allows students to experience real-world experiences while partnering with community organizations, such as KidGlov.

“We have multiple programs where students are working with professionals,” said Veil. “If a student doesn’t really know what they want to do, this is a place to come in and figure it out to find the right fit. They can see what it’s like to work in the industry and talk with professionals with real world experience.”

The full Agency for Change episode featuring Shari Veil can be found on KidGlov’s website, or wherever podcasts are available.
