KidGlov, a boutique, full-service advertising, branding and content marketing agency based out of Lincoln and Omaha, Neb., recently welcomed executive director of the Center for People in Need, Macala Carter, to its podcast, Agency for Change. The episode explored how the nonprofit has supported the Lincoln, Neb. community since 2003. 

“We are really lucky to have so many great organizations in Lincoln that help people, whether it’s through financial assistance, providing food, career training or education,” said Kelley Peterson, KidGlov chief creative officer and host of the Agency for Change podcast. “There’s nothing basic to the services the Center for People in Need provides. They’re essential, critical and foundational.”

The Center for People in Need has been fighting poverty in Lincoln, Neb. for nearly twenty years. Their mission is to provide services and programs to low-income people that address their basic needs and help them achieve economic independence. The Center believes education is the key to helping low-income individuals obtain economic independence. Their educational and training programs help people obtain employment with a living wage and include: English language learning courses; the People Obtaining Prosperity program that provides full tuition assistance and additional support services to make college feasible for low-income individuals; the Opening Doors program which provides education, training and assistance to formerly incarcerated individuals; EduTech career development; and Google Career Certificate scholarship programs.

The Agency for Change podcast episode explores the numerous ways the Center supports the community, how Carter’s background in banking has helped her in this new role, and how the need for services is growing. The Center has seen the need for their services increase 78% over the last year.  

“Our end goal is for folks to earn not just a surviving wage, but a thriving wage. We want to provide those we serve with the educational opportunities to use as a springboard into the workplace, a career, or an opportunity to provide for their family,” said Carter.
